sour ones left on the trees are fit for no purpose what ever
turnips & cabbages killed to the ground - in fact everything
looks dreary &discouraging . no oranges this year -

I am going to enclose a memorandum for William
or John to fill for me - I wrote to Mr Anderson for
one firkin of Butter - he sent me but a 1/2 firkin
which was so long coming we had to borrow 5 or
six tbs from Miss Gould . So that by Saturday I shant
have a spoon full . Let William get & send me
the things on Saturday next & present the bill
to Mr Anderson . I am entirely out of fluid &
lamp oil -& very nearly out of machinery oil -
all of which are absolutely necessary . I do
hope the Everglade will get quickly back on
the line - a serious misfortune the accident
& delay she has met with - I would have
