respect to Jonathans difficulties & embarassments I have had & will have great exercise and anxiety of mind if he was any more Bother I could not have more things to my mind was an exceeding gloomy aspect many circumstances transpired than would my feelings on acting in the situation I now do and at being bound in conscience & from feelings of heart felt gratitude to talk & promote Mr. James's interests wh sometimes happens to be at the risk of gaining the disapprobation of those with whom he is intimately connected. The last time he went down Mrs. Jonathan told me to my face that he had been waiting a whole week for me to go to Sydney & he could not move me. I made no reply to this knowing that she knew not how things were the Bills & all that myself & Mr. James have [indecipherable] our hand so we must reconcile our minds to take up wh is about 800 pound & I hope a timely providence will enable us both to preserve our character & credit perhaps if you were to intimate to Mr. Jonathan that these endeavours
