THURS APR 5

6:00 Up early to pack. It really feels strange to be going away after SO LONG. Tough to do, or at least it would be if I didn't "know" LA. Call Bob. "Nice to have someone to say bye too"

9:00 Leave for airport. Meet GRACE HOPPER

10 - 12:20 Read Infoworld [WSJ?] & do CDP for today.

12:20 Get T-bird. New airport is much better.

1:30 Drive to LA. Lunch at cafe Moustache. So ritzy & expensive. For me?? Feels uncomfortable. Just because it's so GOOD, or at least PRETTY.

3 - 4 Find new Jim Morris Club. Call Jorge. It's warm & sunny now. I feel like I did when I went to Key West after that winter at HBS. I don't feel crazy [insert] or over-happy [/insert] at all, but I feel much better. But hard not to fall in love with it, and make a fool of myself perhaps.

4:00 Go to exercise. Keep stable! Be serious about my workout

6 - 11:30 Dinner w/ Jorge. Go to Aaron's. Go out.

11:30 - 2:30 Go out by myself. Drink too much. Stayed too later. Went to dirty movies. Asked forgiveness.

FRIDAY, APRIL 6

Last night was a dry run for tonite. Also, forget Arturo. No drive. Likes grass. Spent most of the day reorienting myself and coming to feel again what LA is. I discovered Santa Monica. Very nice!!! I realized how much better Wilshire is to approach LA on than Santa Monica Blvd or Olympic. Also bought [Lindborg? Lindberg?] Protein.

1:30 Lunch at Uncle John's on Wilshire

1:30 - 4:30 Drove to LA. It's so busy and there no fast way to go from Santa Monica to West Hollywood. Just Wilshire to S.M. Blvd. Beverly Hills isn't very comfortable to me, and West Hollywood isn't pretty. And Westwood is busy & mostly UCLA. So only area of interest (comfort, quiet, beauty) is west of 405: West LA & Santa Monica, particularly north of Wilshire.

Then I drove over Laurel Canyon Dr just to see it & "the valley". Yawn & Yuk. It's almost funny though: corner of Victory & Van Noys Blvd!

Santa Monica feels almost like O. C. but it doesn't have the size or variety. Too rectilinear. No ocean hangouts like Boom boom room. Not affectionately close to any fun spots.

So LA is really not for me. It's too busy, and that just won't work for me. I have trouble being comfortable, or quiet, when everyone else is so intense, with such strong personalities.

Wonderful for fun, but not for creating computer software.

Of course OC isn't either, because it only has 2 bars. Not much variety. And dead in winter.

And San diego is so "remote".

KEY { So don't try to work here just vacation this weekend.

5 - 7 Call Dick. Call Jorge. Do CDP. Go to Santa Monica Bluffs for sunset. Realize what a little town LA is. It's like New York can mean NYC or Manhattan If you forget everything but Airport, Marina Del Ray, Venice, Santa Monica, and Inland: West LA, Westwood, [Berth? Bertt?], West Hollywood, then it really is a small town, like Manhattan, or Seattle (even smaller). Beautiful sunset with views of lights below on PCH. Unique for S. Cal coast!

7 - 8 Cocktails with Jorge.

8 - 9:30 Dinner at Mexican Restaurant.

9:30 - 10:15 Wait for Dick

10:15 - 11:00 Champagne & grass a little.

11 - 2 Go to Greg's Blue Dot, So [far?] Met cute guys but boring LA types. Was supposed to meet Arturo there at 10:30 but we didn't get there till 11:30. Home by 2:30. LA CLOSES EARLY That is yet another reason why it's so hard to meet people here. Starting at 11:00 gives you only 3 hours.

Fun to visit. But it's small time. boring boys, not men. closes early. Very young crowd. small town for only part thats of any interest. But the point is it's a good counterpoint to Seattle.

SATURDAY, APR 7

9:15 Get up, shower, etc.

10:15 Breakfast at Cheese & Olive, out on the patio, in the sun

11:15 Walk on Pier, that street separates Marina Del Ray & Venice

11:30 Go home. Ready for lying in sun

12:00 Go to Santa Monica Bluffs

THE SUN FEELS SO WONDERFUL. IT'S BEEN 6 MONTHS!!! NO BREAKS ALL DURING WINTER STRETCH THOSE OLD MUSCLES.

READ CDP TOO

2 - 3 Lunch at Cafe Casino.

3 - 6:30 Go home, go to gym, Jorge gets coke.

6:30 - 8:30 Get ready to go out. Reserve table at Numbers for "WEILAND" and person says "Is that Ric Weiland?" It was Bob Blair.

8:30 - Go pick up Dick Titus. See new condo. (I still hate Culver City.) Dinner at Numbers. I felt strange because Dick & Jorge were doing all the talking. Hot hustlers at that bar. Go to Studio 1 & Probe at 2:00
