Punctually at the appointed time our
society assembled and regretted to find our
host missing, having been called to New
York on urgent business. Our hostess, in her
first experience as hostess of the society
gave us a cordial reception and perform
-ed her duties for the evening in a most
agreeable manner. Our guests were Edith
Bentley, Mary L. Roberts Mary B. Thomas, Ed
ward and Hallie Bentley, Thomas & Dora
Moore, Mary L. Moore Deborah and Ed
ward Lea, Edith Thomas, Anna Thomas
Miss Coese and Miss Hannan - Our Presi
-dent to gratify many members who were
absent from the quarter Centennial meeting
in March, read "the Ode" by H. C. Hallowell
and Ellen Farquhar read the History by
Margaret Magruder, which were prepared
for that occassion. They gave complete satis-
faction; there was no possible room for
improvement. Our hostess read a letter
of regret from her husband, that he was
called away at this time. President read a
letter from Samuel Hopkins who, with his wife
was prevented by sickness in his family
from being with us; proposing that each
family try some means of preventing the
destruction of plums by curculio. Several
