has passed and a careful study of the local market demands is necessary to make farming profitable.

Dr Jay Morgan of the Bureau of Education followed with an able address upon Movements in Education. He emphasized the tremendous changes in the industries and science brought about by experiment and inven research & the fact that in education we were far behind [?} the lack of facilities and support for a department of research on thesein educational lines. He advocated the formation of a Nat? department of education with a representative in' the President's Cabinet.

He stated closed with the arresting statement that we are spending money to eliminate the culls in our fruit & neglecting the culls among our children.

On the close of this address which made a marked impression upon the convention a rising vote of thanks was given to the ladies of the lunch committee.

Dr. Patterson of the U. of M. then favored the convention with a short address mentioned his forty years of acquaintance with the Convension & its work in the neighborhood - He developed the point that improvements in farm conditions had not come from some magic legislative formulas but through the result of research in bringing about better & larger production and efficiency resulting in higher standards of living & more profitable returns.

George Celand [?] who for the past two years has won the County & State prizes for pork production in the [?] litter class gave an able talk upon pork production - entering into all the various phases of kind of stock or breed [?] also gave careful tables of rations together with methods of feeding & housing.

A very delightful fireside meeting of the Enterprise Club was held under the hospitible roof of Milton and Margret A.S. Bancroft on the above date.

I say fireside - years ago, when your sec protem was a new member of this worthy club, one might very appropriately have paraphrased the familiar saying about the mail:

Rain or shine, snow or blow The walk has always got to go.

And that was literally true; it was practically in hand of not to take over a short Four of inspection
