Queen's College, Kingston 19 April 1848. The Senatus met and was constituted by prayer. Present: Rev. John Machar D.D. Principal Rev. James Williamson, A.M. Rev. George Romanes, A.M. The Secretary having reported that the following Students had been attending some of the Classes during this Session, or during parts of it, the Senatus ordered that their names should be entered in the album, but with a mark of distinction from the regular Students: John Ransom John Hamilton Henry Macpherson Neil Dunbar, and Charles Legg. also Alex. Morris, who had left the Classes from ill health shortly after he joined. [added in different ink:] W. A. Ross

Dr Machar stated that he had it in contemplation shortly to visit Scotland; and proposed that the Revd. Hugh Urquhart should be requested to preside at the meetings of the Senatus at the close of this Session, and at all other meetings that it might be found necessary to hold.

The Senatus requested the Principal to endevour to procure, during his stay in Scotland, a copy of the Statutes of the Universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow.

It was resolved that the Examinations of Candidates for Degrees should commence on Tuesday 23d. May

The Principal stated that no Essays had been given in by competitors for the prize given by Ladies in Scotland, and therfore paid over the sum of £5-18- being the balance of the amount, to be applied to the procuring of prizes at the end of this Session

Queen's College, Kingston, 16th. November 1848. The Senatus met, and was constitiuted by prayer by the Revd. Dr Machar.

The Senatus, having taken into consideration the appearances made in examination, by the different Candidates for Matriculation, resolved that they should be ranked as follows.

Frederic Petry Syme, a Student of the University of Glasgow, having applied for Matriculation, it was resolved that his name should be entered in the Album but without, in the mean time, adjoining to him any specific rank; it being understood that his case shall be represented to the Synod of Canada, as a case for their special consideration.

Duncan Morrison, though not previously a Student, yet having made considerable proficiency in the various branches of Study, was ordered to be ranked as a Student of the second year; and it was resolved that his case also be represented to the Synod.

The Senatus then proceeded to apportion the Bursaries for this Session, as follows:

1. The Bursary given by Hugh Allan Esq. Montreal of £12-10. for a Student of Divinity in Queen's College; to provide which annually he has signified his intention to invest £200. This Bursary was awarded for this Session to Mr Kenneth McLennan, Student of Divinity.

2. The sum of £12. Sterling, granted by the "Students Missionary Association of the University of Edinburgh." This sum it was resolved to divide into two Bursaries, one to Mr Duncan Morrison, the other to Mr James Gordon.

3. The Lay Association of Montreal have granted three Bursaries of £10, each: viz: one Bursary for one year; one for two years, and one for three years, to be awarded by the Principal and Professors to deserving Students having in view the Ministry in the Presbyterian Church in Canada in connection with the Church of Scotland. These were awarded for the Session to Mr John Hugh McKerras, Mr. David Watson; and the third to be divided equally between Mr John McLennan and Mr Donald Watson. It was thought advisable, [underline] at present [/underline], not to award any of the Bursaries for more than one Session.

4. Two Scholarships were given by Professors Williamson and Romanes, which
