Kingston 5th July 1862.

The Senate met and was constituted with Prayer by the Revd. Professor Campbell.

Present, Revd. Professor Campbell, Revd. J. Machar, Honble. John Hamilton, Francis A.Harper, Esqu. In absence of the Principal, the Revd. J Machar was appointed to preside.

The Senate taking into Consideration that it has been the invariable Custom ^in the Mother Country^, that the Universities should be represented in the Supreme judicatory of the Church, and being desirous that this Senate should be so represented in the Synod as the Supreme Court of the Church in Canada, unanimously agreed to appoint the Reverend Professor Campbell then Commissioner to attend and vote at the next meeting of the Synod which is indicted to be holden at Montreal

on the seventh day of the current month, in the confident expectation that the Synod in the fact will be desirous of conforming to the aforesaid Custom, and will take such steps as may be necessary towards receiving and admitting the said Commissioner, and the Reverend J. Machar, as President did accordingly sign Mr. Campbell's Commission, drawn out as nearly as circumstances permitted according to the form in use in such cases in Scotland, in name and in presence of the Senate. Sederunt closed with prayer. (Signed) J. Machar Praeses pro tempore.

Mr. Machar was appointed to preside in absence of the Principal. Professor Campbell stated that having during the month of August, after consultation with the other members of the Senate now in the Province and with several Members of the Board of Trustees, inserted an advertisement in the public prints announcing the opening of the Session of College for the year 1842-43 as to take place this day, he had in the absence of the Principal called this meeting of the Senate, that he might receive advice as to how he ought to proceed until the arrival of the Principal.

Whereupon the Senate approved of what had been done by Professor Campbell, and resolved to proceed with the examination of the Students of last year on the subjects on which they had been

employed during the vacation, and of Candidates for Matriculation as Entrants on the subjects of examination announced in the advertisement in conformity with the resolution of the Trustees to that effect. The following Students were then examined and admitted
