Kingston July 26th 1880

A meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the
City of Kingston was held this day. Present

His Worship The Mayor
Aldermen:
Allen, Anglin, Clements, Dupuis, Fee, Gaskin,
CF Gildersleeve, JP Gildersleeve, Harty, Irving,
Law, Maloney, McCammon, McGuire, McMahon,
McRossie, Pense, Snook, Wilson

The Clerk read the minutes of the four last meetings

A circular from the Board of Education was read
giving appointment of Legislative school grants for
the present year

A communication from LL Phippen Secretary Board
of Public School Trustees was read referring to his former
communication of April 3rd asking for a grant of $4000
for Public School purpose and requesting a reply

Ald Irving moves seconded by Ald McCammon
That the item in the Finance Report leaving date
14th June 1880 referring to the Communicaiton of the Secretary
of Public School Board be new lead and adopted

In amendment
Ald Gaskin moves seconded by Ald Fee
That the communication of Samuel Phippen in
reference to the School question be on the table until the
general business of Council has been gone through which
being put was carried

A communmication from William Smith Deputy
Minister of Marine &c was read in Re Gas City Clerk

On motion of Ald Snook seconded by Ald Anglin
Ordered, That the letter just read be referred to the
Committee on Fire, Water and Gas

A communication from George A Kirkpatrick Esquire
was read asking on behalf of Mrs Beverly Robinson daughter
of the late Judge Hagerman for the loan of his Portrait for
say twelve months to be placed in the dining room of the
Government House Toronto (see Report on City Property No 13)

Communications from James Agnew City Solicitor
were read In Re Assessment of Lawns &c decided cases
and rate set aside Fee in Kingston

Ald CF Gildersleeve moves seconded by Ald Snook
That the communications of the City Solicitor be
referred to the Finance Committee to report

In amendment 1st
Ald Dupuis moves seconded by Ald Allen
That the communication of James Agnew Esquire
referring to the assessment of Gardens lands &c be referred
to the Court of Revision
