Andover June 8th 1853.
Dear Parents,
With pleasure I again address
a few lines Home. The trunk with its attendants all
reached me safely Saturday afternoon. As usual I was
on tip toe, running to the window at the noise of every carriage
I heard, for an hour or so before it arrived. But I
found my trouble was fully compensated for, by the arrival
of the trunk. There is a good deal of pleasure in thinking
that all the articles have just com from Home, that
they have just been placed and carefully packed by
a mother or a sister, and I am wont to sit + soliloquize
for a while after they arrive. The letter which accompanied
the trunk was a good one full of affection +
good will. The 1st part I will notice is the question about
carving. Perhaps I should have written you before this,
about so important a subject, but it escaped my
mind. I am getting along first rate, much better
than I expected; not very hard work, but troublesome
Imagine your son sitting at the head of a long
table with its comrads before him on either side. Tehy
are as hungry as - students generally are - no sooner
