the fare is not a trifle. I am getting "short" of change and
can't afford it. I should realy like some of the cherries
however, but must put up with what the Dr gives
us. But I almost forgot to speak about the coat.
It is a "fit." What did Mother take for a pattern?
Such an evening as this shows one the worth of it.
Julia's cake was gratefully received. I shall also express
my thanks to her. You will write me when
she returns. Is Capt Gickey sick? I have not received
a letter from him or Mr Edwards. And as for Frank
you astonished me with such intelligence, he
has not written me this term. I was about writing
him a second and talk to him for his negligence
but he is excusible. A man that has been lately
married we cannot expect will turn his attention
to boys. I hardly know how I should write
him, seems as though he could not be Frank any
longer. If you see him give my respects to him, also
to all inquiring friends, and receive much love
from your affectionate Son
Leonard.
P.S.
When I commenced I meant to have written
a word to Alice, but forgot it. Methinks I see
her, in her neat parlor with whited walls. She is
humming the tune "Home far away" Are your hopes
of returning to the old Father Land as strong as ever?
I can say with you Alice, Home is a good place, L.
