Pen to Press p. 53 - Functionally superfluous but aesthetically desired rulings
were added to printed house to broaden their market
appeal. In the same way painted initials, line endings,
decorated borders + miniatures were added.
- Speaking of the Hardouins, Egidius + Germain, Dibin says
"they were both unquestionably very beautiful printers +
maintained a prodigious traffic in the sale of devotional
volumes, their production being upon the whole fully equal
to those of Kerver, Pigouchet + Vostre."
