I cannot be specific about conversations. Naturally they covered
such topics as intelligence concerning the landing beaches and the enemy,
speculation about discovery of the operation.
No.14:
I do not know the Navy skipper's name. The Artillery Battery
Commander was Capt Vernon Burns.
No.19:
Colonel Peyton Tabb. Conversation was very brief — just a hand- shake and mutual best wishes the tail of the slow-vehicle column
was still being chewed up by artillery fire on the beach, and clearing in- land was imperative.
