We have had no information from the Continent
for some time, there is now 7 mails due from
Hyannis & 4 from Falmouth.

The mail Packet, James Scudder Master left
here for Hyannis, with a small wind SE
when they had run half their distance, A thick
snow storm, & an increasing wind took place
& when they got nearly across, the wind increased
to a heavy gale, & the weather so thick with
Snow, that nothing could be discovered within
100 feet of the Vessel, at length they run
on Curlier's Lodge, where they took to their
Boat, 8 in number, & after being in the Boat
many hours, landed on Sampson's Island,
where there was no shelter of any kind & coverd
with Snow, & Ice. They next day left the Island,
& got on board a Schooner. Capt. Scudder's
two sons perished with wet & cold.

The mail, & a Trunk belonging to Obed B Swain
with a large amt of money it were saved
from the wreck. The Sloop was afterwards
towed into a harbour a wreck.

Since Spring came in the weather has been
wet & cold . . with some snow.

At the annual meetg the same Select men were
chosen as last year except Thomas Macy, Geo. W Gard.r [GARDNER]
was chosen in the room of Thomas Macy
