1m. [MONTH]

Isaiah Folger in the Sloop Factor
from Portland left 27th. 12m. [MONTH] for Nantucket
the weather proved extreme cold, the Vessel
soon became so loaded with Ice that he was
obliged to go off to the southward into Latt 39.30
he then stood in & made Secunnet [SAKONNET] & soon after
arrived safe home.

11th. The weather is cold, Thermr. [THERMOMETER] at 7° above
the harbour again closed with Ice.
The winter since this month came in has been
uncommonly cold & stormy, more so than for many
years past at this date.

12th. The snow is mostly gone; the harbour is blocked
up with Ice, Small wind at South, appears
likely to be a snow or rain storm, & break
up the Ice in the harbour, & release the Vessels
from their confinement.

1st. 3mo. [MONTH] Nearly the whole of last month, the weather has
been uncommonly boisterous & cold; yet the wind
come from any quarter, it generally blow a gale.

Many storms of snow & rain, which has generally
helped the ground covered with Snow, and given
an opportunity for all who were so disposed to ride
in Sleighs, I think there never was before so much business
done in that line (if it may be called business), on the
Island. Therr. [THERMOMETER] has ranged from 10° to 22°.
except one spell, at which time it was down to 3°.

The harbour has been frozen, so as to impassable
with Vessels the most of the time.

24th. 2mo. [MONTH] The Ice made from Brant point out to
the Northward beyond the reach of sight with glasses

The Light was blocked in, & wholly surrounded
with Ice. Previous to the last cold spell the
Falmouth Mail Packet entered the Ice within Brant
Point, & was carried up harbour as far as Shimmo
