This collection comprises records of paintings and drawings submitted to the Stationers’ Company for copyright protection between 1862 and 1912. The records are entry forms containing information about the creative works being submitted for copyright protection, with attached samples of those creative works. The details found in the entry forms include:

Description of work: Oil painting entitled "The Fox and sick Lion". On the left a cave in a rock, in which a lion lies half concealed. A fox approaches from behind, down a sandy hill, cautiously scenting footprints of other animals that have been to see the lion.

Description of work: Oil painting entitled "Armed Neutrality". Three dogs - a collie, fox terrier and a cur - have met in a yard. Their hairs bristle, and they stand near each other as if about to fight.

A man standing on a chair points to a picture, which he tries to sell to the two men standing near.
