PLYMOUTH ROCK CHICKEN FOOD. Our experience of more than 30 years' business in handling poultry supplies has convinced us that it is necessary to use some good food for small chickens, as thousands of young chickens are annually lost by feeding wet food when they are first hatched. We have experimented with different mixtures until we have finally manufactured one which we think is about as close to perfection as we can attain. This food is composed of various kinds of grains, grit and other nutritive foods which have a tonic effect on the system. The food is to be given dry and will take the place of all kinds of grain or other mixtures ordinarily fed. It is a safe and nutritions food which we sell at a resonable price so that no one raising chickens can afford to be without it. Price per 25 lb. bag 75c, 50 lbs. $1.35, 100 lbs. $2.50.

IOWA SEED COMPANY, DES MOINES, IOWA. 41

[image] WHITE TRIUMPH

EARLY WHITE TRIUMPH POTATO. Novelty 1904. For three years past we have been watching this variety, and we now take pleasure in introducing it to our customers. It has been tested with more than one hundred varieties and proved of exceptional value. It is earlier than the Early Ohio, and a better yielder. In shape it resembles the Bliss Triumph, which is so popular now, especially in the south. It has somewhat the appearance of the Improved Peachblow, but is smoother and the eyes are not so deep. It has the same fine grain, mealy qualities and excellent flavor which was characteristic of the old Peachblow and which still make so many calls for that old variety every spring. In spite of being such an early sort it is very productive, yielding every year a large crop of good size, perfect shape tubers, pronged or misshaped ones being unknown. Owing to the peculiarly unfavorable season the potatoes are not as large this year as usual, but still they yielded a fine crop - larger in fact than any of the other sixteen varieties planted in the same field. It has won prizes wherever exhibited - took $18.00 at the Iowa State Fair in 1901; won first prize for new variety and sweepstakes for best potato over all other varieties. It has also won many special prizes and been pronounced by many persons the finest potato in existence for exhibition. Summing it all up, it is as early as any other, of handsome shape and color and unsurpassed for table use. Per lb. 35c, 3 lbs. $1.00, postpaid; by freight or express, 1/2 pk. 65c, pk. $1.00, bu. $3.50.

GIANT HALF SUGAR MANGEL. Another year adds to the popularity of this grand sort, and in Canada alone over fifty thousand pounds of seed were sold last year. In our own tests of its feeding qualities we find that it is far superior to any variety of either mangel or sugar beet that we know of. It is the result of a cross made in France between the Mammoth Red Mangel and Improved Sugar Beet, growing about as large as the mangel with the rich sugar sweetness and highly nutritive qualities of the sugar beet. Shape of root is shown by our illustration and it stands so well out of the ground that it can almost be "kicked out" instead of plowing or digging. Root is white, top shading to light rose, and quality extra fine. On our place this year it grew to a larger size than any of the mangels and was earlier in maturing. No one who has even one cow can afford to be without it if they wish a large amount of highly nutritive food at a low price. Costs less than five cents per bushel to grow and harvest. Per pkt. 5c, oz. 10c, 1/4 lb. 20c, lb. 60c, postpaid; by express, five lbs. (will plant one acre) $2.00. Directions for growing, storing and feeding free to our customers.

"Root Hog or Die." It is the nature of hogs to feed on roots and it is working against nature to try to fatten them with corn alone. It has been stated that hog cholera is unknown in herds where plenty of mangels and other roots are fed. Try It this Year.

GOLDEN WEST CORN. For years we have been searching for a variety of corn with the bright golden yellow color and deep grain of the Iowa Gold Mine and the great yielding qualities of the Iowa Silver Mine and we now offer this new variety as coming nearest to our ideal. We introduced it last spring and there was a demand for fully five times as much as we could supply, and we returned money to a vast number of customers after our stock was exhausted. Corn growers should appreciate the fact that this wonderful new variety of corn - the only one ever planned and bred according to the true scientific principles of breeding corn, beginning with five years labor on the plant alone without reference to the ear till a perfect one in all its individual parts, full of vigor, health and beauty was built up. Then, after years of modifying and fertilizing the ear, one was moulded marked by its uniformity in shape and fixed type and beautiful golden yellow color. See description on another page. Per pkt. 5c, lb. 30c, 3 lbs. 75c, postpaid; by freight, peck 90c, bushel $3.00. I planted the Golden West corn purchased of you, May 11th, and it was out of danger from frost September 8th. I am very well pleased with it and think it will come up to all you claim for it. Although we have had a very wet season to raise corn, still the seed purchased of you was far ahead of that purchased of one of your competitors.- C. A. Bonar, Adams Co. Ia.

NEW CENTURY WONDER CORN. A most wonderful variety from South America, different in many respects from other sorts. Instead of growing like ordinary corn, one stalk to each kernel planted, it stools like winter wheat, producing 10 to 25 stalks from each seed. There are sometimes 3 to 7 ears to the stalk, 8 to 10 inches long. It is of excellent quality when used on the table like sweet corn, yielding, of course, a much larger crop, and when dry and ground makes the cleanest, finest, whitest meal you ever saw. It will rise like wheat flour and can be used in bread, biscuits, pies and cakes. Is an improvement on the Brazilian flour corn, being acclimated by growing for eight or ten years in the north. Yields 100 to 150 bushels per acre. The Iowa State Register, in its farm department, says: "This wonderful corn, which was grown about four miles northwest of Des Moines, grows ten to twelve feet high, produces three to seven ears on a stalk and ten to twenty stalks to the hill from one seed planted. The ears are about nine inches long and it yielded seventy-five bushels on half an acre. It makes the finest of stock food when cut for fodder and produces many times as much as ordinary corn." Plant early as it requires the whole season to mature in this latitude. Pkt. 10c, 1/4 lb. 15c, lb. 40c, 3 lbs. (will plant one acre) $1.00, postpaid; by freight, 1/2 pk. 75c, pk. $1.25.
