Sweet Milk Devil's Food (Aunt Lill)
2 c sifted Swans Down Flour
1 tsp soda
1/2 c butter or other shortening
1 1/4 c brown sugar, firmly packed
2 eggs, unbeaten
3 squares chocolate or scant 1/2 c
cocoa with a little water
1 c sweet milk
1 tsp vanilla

Sift the flour once, measure
add soda and sift three times
cream butter, add sugar gradually
Add eggs, one at a time, beating
well with each addition. Add
chocolate and beat well. Add
flour, alternately with milk, a
small amount at a time. Beat
after each addition untill smooth.
Add vanilla. 2-10 in pans or
3-9 in. pans. Bake 25 min. 350 degrees
