To the Honorable Mayor and City Council of Fort Worth, Texas.

Honorable Sirs:

Through petition of the First Baptist Church of the City of Fort Worth we would respectfully represent to you that said Church owns Lot No. 5, Block 7, J. P. Smith Addition to the City of Fort Worth, and that it uses it as a Parsonage, and has used it as such since the year 1899. At the time it bought said Lot it became responsible for the taxes for the year 1899 and all subsequent years, and its Clerk E. L. Huffman notified the City Assessor and Collector at once that said Church owned said Lot and that it was not subject to taxation subsequent to the year 1898.

Never-the-less, said Lot was Assessed by your Assessor and Collector and there exists against the Lot taxes to the amount of $89.60

Said Church further represents that it is the owner of Lot No. 12, Block B, Ryan Sub-Division of 158 to the City of Fort Worth, and that it uses same as a Mission for said Church, known as Grace Mission, and that it has done so ever since the year 1899, and at the time of assessing taxes for the year 1899 you Assessor was duly notified by the Clerk of the First Baptist Church that said Church owned said Lot and used the same as Grace Mission, it being a Mission of said Church.

Never-the-less, the taxes were assessed on same from 1899 to 1903 respectively.

The Church would most respectfully beg of your Honorable Body that you cancel the taxes on the above property from January 1, 1899, the same being on property of the First Baptist Church of your City.

You will also find hereto attached statement from the County Assessor showing that the said property has not been taxed since the 1st of January, 1899 in the County of Tarrant, the same being the property of said Church.

The City was informed of the ownership of said property on the same day and date that the County was informed.

Lot 5 Block 7 J. P. Smith Add. Lot 12 Block B Ryan Sub of 158 are not assessed for Taxation by Tarrant Co. Nor have they been since Dec. 31, 1898 same being carried on the Rolls as Church Property.

Petition

We your Finance Com recommend that the City Assessor & Collector be and he is hereby authorized to cancel the taxes against the property referenced in this within petition for the year 1899 subsequent years the property being that of the First Baptist Church.

Resolved that the City Engineer be instructed to report on the cost and practicability of constructing a culvert at the intersection of Pennsylvania Ave. and Ballinger Street or of putting in proper gutter and said intersection.
