the page count; and, as in previous printings of the second American edition, neither

the second American edition, there no mispagination between pp. 16 and 17. See
Note.

Contents: The table of contents, pp. [3]-15, is expanded to include the 'THIRD

Old Barney', 'Gore Shooting Denby', 'Mrs. Auld Teaching Him to Read', 'Found

Newport', and 'Fighting the Mob in Indiana'. Listed but not present are: 'Portrait
of John Brown', 'Portrait of William Lloyd Garrison', and 'Portrait of Abraham
Lincoln'. See Note.
