All of these 24 Hours moderate breezes and squally with heavy showers of Rain

first part E. by S. steering S by W. at 10 P. M. the wind Hauled Sudden to S. S. E. Ship Heading off to S W. Latter Hours off to W. S. W. saw a Brig steering to the N E

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 12" 49. North. Longitude by acc. 28" 10 west.

Friday, Aug. 24th, 1838.

Commences with strong breezes and squally attended with wind & Rain wind from the South ship off to W. S. W. from that to west. at 8 P. M. Tacked ship to the S E. at 9 Do the wind increasing took in the Top Gallant sails but split the Fore one likewise the main Top Sail firled them and double Reefed the Fore & Mizen.

middle Hours more moderate the wind hauled to S W Tacked ship steering S S. E. set whole Fore & mizen Top Sails & Top Gallant Sails.

Latter Hours pleasant unbent the main Top sail & Fore Top Gallant Sails and bent others and set them saw a Barque ship steering to the N. & E.

So ends.

Saturday Aug. 25th 1838.

Commences with moderate breezes and pleasant weather wind SW steering S S. E.

at 4 P. M. the wind veered to the N W. set the steering sails. Middle Hours the wind from the N E and fair Latter it shifted sudden to the S E ship off to S S W took in the steering sails and Braced Sharp by the wind

this Day took out [6?] blbs of water from the after Hatch Lower Hole and set it in the Blubber [Pour?] -

Commences with light airs from the S E. steering by the wind to the S. & W.

middle & Latter Hours the same ship off W. S. W. Saw a Brig steering N. N. E.

So ends.

Monday, Aug. 27th, 1838.

Commences with light breezes from the southward steering by the wind to the S. & W. at 4 P. M. the wind hauled to the west Tacked ship steering S. S. E. middle Hours squally Latter the wind veering to the S W. with light squalls of wind & Rain Hands employed in making scrubs and dressing Iron Poles.

So ends

All of these 24 Hours fresh breezes and squally wind S. S. W. steering by the wind to the S. & E. at 9 A. M. passed 2 sail steering to the N. & E

Wednesday Aug. 29th, 1838.

Commences with fresh breezes from the S S W and squally steering by the wind to the S. & E. Middle & Latter Hours light and pleasant this Day sent down the Fore Truss got a Heat upon it at the Forge set it out and put it up again likewise set up the Fore Rigging & Top mast Back stays and fitted a new main & mizen Top sail with [Points?] &. &. ready for bending likewise caulked the Planks here Seam Fore & Aft.

So ends.

this day turned in the Larboard side of the main Rigging set it up likewise Top mast & Top Gallant Backstays.

Tuesday, Sept. 4th 1838.

All of these 24 Hours moderate breezes from the S. & W. and pleasant ship heading up at times to S. S. E. and off to S E.

This Day while at work about the mizzen mast aloft found it to be very Rotten about about the Cheeks cut out the decayed wood and put in groving pieces we likewise found the Fore Top mast Head to be very poor had the armourer fit a Band to keep it together.

Hands employed in ships Duty.

Wednesday, Sept. 5th 1838.

Commences with pleasant breezes from the S W and fair weather ship Heading to S. S. E. at 8 P. M. off S E. by S. Tacked ship heading up W. S. W.

at 7 A. M. the wind hauling to the S W. Tacked ship to the S S. E. at 10 Do. the wind hauling back Tacked ship again heading W. S. W.

Hands employed in various jobs of ships Duty.

So ends.

Thursday Sept. 6th 1838,

All of these 24 Hours moderate breezes from the Southward steering by the wind to the west at 8 A. M. saw 2 sail steering to the west. at 10 Do. unbent the Fore Sail to repair and bent a new one.

Hands employed in Ships Duty.

Sunday, Sept. 9th, 1838.

Commences with moderate breezes from the south and pleasant weather steering by the wind to the westward.

middle Hours light airs and squally. Latter the wind hauled in S E. by S. and pleasant at 12 midnight judged ourselves on the Equator having crossed it for the 15th time since going to sea. at 10 A. M. saw a few Black fish lowered for them without success.
