Thursday December 4th 1845 Comes in with light breezes from the Westward. Steer by the wind to the Northward. Middle part fresh. At 6 AM wear ship to the Southward. Latt [LATITUDE] Obs [OBSERVATION] 41°=32" South Long [LONGITUDE] by Chro. [CHRONOMETER] 157°=11" West

Friday Dec 5th This day we have fresh winds from the Westward. Saw a Right whale. Struck him. At 6 PM held on till [UNTIL] night and then cut. Latt [LATITUDE] by Acct [ACCOUNT]42°-40" South Long [LONGITUDE] by [Chro CROSSED OUT] 157=20" West

Saturday Dec. 6th Comes in with a gale of wind from the Westward attended with rain. Spoke ship Neptune of N. L. [NEW LONDON], Capt [CAPTAIN] Oat, 1100, one whale this season. Latter part chaced [CHASED] two whales but could not strike. Thus ends. Latt [LATITUDE] Obs [OBSERVATION] 43°=13" South Long [LONGITUDE] by Chro [CHRONOMETER] 157°=22" West by Lunar 157°=14"

Sunday Dec. 7th Comes in with fresh gales from the N & W. Steer SE till [UNTIL] sunset, then heave too [TO] heading to the Southward. In the morning set top sails and stand to the N & E with strong gales from the N & W. Saw two whales. Chaced [CHASED] one but could not strike. Ends the day. Latt [LATITUDE] by Acct [ACCOUNT] 43°=55" South Long [LONGITUDE] by Acct [ACCOUNT] 156°=27" West

Monday Dec. 8th Commences with strong gales from the N & W. Steer by the wind to the N & E. Take in sail as usual. In the morning set double reefed top sails and stand to the N & E. Wind the same. Saw nothing. Latt [LATITUDE] Obs [OBSERVATION] 43°=33" South Long [LONGITUDE] by Chro. [CHRONOMETER] 155°=47" West
