The day began with a light air
from the Sth E ward and clear weather.
Ship under easy sail. Employed
in boiling. Middle and latter
part strong gales from N and raine [rain].
Saw one whale but rough to lore [lower]. Two ships in sight to the
wind ward. Standing to the W ward
at 2 PM weather being bad
put out our fires and set a [illegible]
wash [watch?]. Nothing more occured [occurred].

72 Sunday the 5th
Began with a gale from the
Sth that continued through out
the day. Ly [lie] by with our larboard
tanks on board. Lore sail furled.
Employed in boiling. At 3 hours
After noon passed the Columbia
on the oppsit [opposite] tack. So goes
all well. Lat obsd 35:57
Long about 23:00

73 Monday the 6th
Commenced with a gale from the
Sth. Ly by with our larboard
tanks on board. Employed [illegible] boiling.
Middle the gale rather abated.
Set top sails double refed [reefed].
Latter part light winds. Set
all sail. Finished boiling.
Saw sevarel [several] whales and chased
but with out success. So
remains. Lat obsd 35:53 Long 23:4 [writing ends]
