737 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Jan 15 1886 Petition of Mr. L. Wright et als praying that a temporary sidewalk be constructed on the east side of Seventh St. from the Belltown School House to the Sixth St. School House, read and referred to the Street Committee. Petition of R. Russell praying that the license of teamsters be made payable yearly in advance instead of quarterly as at present. Read and referred to Committee on License and Revenue. Petition of the Seattle Lumber and Commercial Co. praying for a renewal of the lease of the wharf at the foot of Madison St. Read and referred to Committee on Streets. Communicaiton from D. T. Denny and Louisa Denny in the matter of the opening of Box Street setting forth that if said st was opened as petitioned for it would pass through unplatted land belonging tot them: read and on motion tabled. Reports Received From Chief of the Fire Department enclosing communication from the Seattle Iron Works offering to furnish seven fire pumps of the same design as those now in use by the City for the sum o $45.00 each. Referred to Committee on Fire and Water. From Custodian of Powder House for month of December. Read and approved and ordered filed. Report of City Treasurer for month of December. 98 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Oct 15 1886 Be it remembered that on this 15th day of October 1886 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law: The following officers are present to wit: His Hon. the Mayor W.H. Shoudy and Councilmen C.W. Coulter, J. Furth, J.M. Frink, Jos Green, T.D. Hinkley, R. Russell and C F. Reitze: when the following proceedings were had to wit: The minutes of the previous meetings were read and approved. Petitions & Communications Petition of D.W. West et al for street lights on south Eighth Street at the intersection of King, Water, and Lane Streets. Referred to Committee on Street Lights Petition of R.H. Denny et al for a sewer on Front Street between Pike and Union Streets. Referred to Committee on Sewers & Drainage Petition of A. J. Henrich for permission to use a portion of Grant Street for building purposes. Referred to Street Committee. Petition of L. Diller praying that he be permitted to keep the sidewalk iin front of Lot 1 Block 6 Denny's addition in good repair, and not be completed to build a new sidewalk until next spring when petitioner proposes to build a stone wall in front of said premises and build a new sidewalk. Referred to Street Committee Petition of L. Diller et als praying for the repeal of Ordinance No 767 Known as the High License ordinance. Referred to the Committee on License and Renewal.

234 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Jul 15 1887 An Ordinance is submitted by the City Attorney entitled An Ordinance providing for the grading of Mill Street from a point midway between South Fourth and South Fifth Streets to Williamson Street and build sidewalks on both sides thereof" which is passed by the following vote, viz: In favor of the same Furth, Frink, Green, T.D. Hinckley Russell and Charles F. Reitze. Against none. An Ordinance is submitted by the City Attorney entitled "An Ordinance provided for the grading of Seventh Street from Madison Street to Mill Street and for the building of sidewalks thereon" which is passed by the following vote. viz: In favor of the same Furth, Frink, Green, Hinckley Russell & Reitze. Against none An Ordinance is submitted by the Clerk entitled 'A special Ordinance Appropriating Money [crossed out] to pay Audited Bills" which is passed by the following vote: ayes Furth, Frink, Green Hinckley, Russell & Reitze. Noes none. Ordered that the Council do now adjourn un-til Thursday July 21st 1887 at 7.30 P.M. Attest W R Forrest Clerk Approved W.H. 537 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Jul 20 1888 Be it remembered that on the 20th day of July A.D. 1888 the Common Council of the City of Seattle met in its Council Chamber pursuant to law. The following officers were to wit: His Hon. T. T. Minor & Councilmen J. Furth, J. M. Frink, Joseph Green, T. W. Lake Robt Moran, U. R. Niesz & C. F. Reitze. Absent R. Russell, whereupon the following proceedings are had, to wit: Petitions etc Petition of J. D. Smith and others praying the Council to grant the application of H. W. Wheeler and his associates for a street railway franchise on Union Street from Second Street to Ninth Street. Read and referred to Street Committee. Petition of the Pacific Seattle Cable Road and Water Company for an extension of the time to commence work on said road. On motion the petition is granted, provided that the petitioner will file in writing with the City Clerk within ten(10) days its written consent that the City retain the $1000.00 now in its possession as a guaranty for the completion of its road within one year from this day, and that work on said road be commenced within sixty (60) days from this date. Remonstrance of Bailey Gatzert and others against granting A. S. Miller and others permission to grade Marion Street between Fourth Street and Fifth Street, read and referred to Street Committee. Petition of Geo. C. Monroe for permission to transfer his liquor license from the Arcade Saloon on Washington Street to the Mint Saloon on Main Street between Commercial Street and South Second Street. Granted.
