175 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Nov 20/82 be it remembered thaton this the 20th day of November 1882, the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment. The following Officers are present to wit: Councilmen John Collins, O F Cosper, Fred Gasch, Charles McDonald, G L Manning & U M Rasin. By reason of the absence from the City His Honor the Mayor Councilman John Collins is elected to the position of acting Mayor to serve during such absence. Thereupon the following proceedings are had: And now the Council proceeds to open & consider the bids received pursuant to notice for certain Improvements on Jackson Street under Ordinance No325. Which read as follows: John Ward Earthwork per cu yd 22 cents Sidewalks & lumber work per M[thousand] $14.00 A H Manning Earthwork per cu yd 24&1/2 cents Cribbing & Sidewalks per M[thousand] $17.00 W Pinkham & Co Earthwork per cu yd 29&1/2 cents crib work per sq yd $3.25 Sidewalks per M[thousand] $18.29 Cummings and Ray Earthwork per cu yd 24&3/4 cents Cribbing per sq yd $2.50 sidewalks per M[thousand] $18.00 F A Minick Earthwork per cu yd 23&7/8 cents Bulkhead per sq yd $2.99 sidewalk per M[thousand] $18.20 C H McLenathen & Co Earthwork per cu yd 28 cents Cribbing per sq yd $2.50 Sidewalks per M[thousand] $18.00 And now it appearingtothe Council that the bid of John Ward is the lowest responsible & best bid & that he is the lowest responsible bidder it is ordered that the Contract be awarded to him upon his giving a bond with good & sufficent surety in the same

210 JOUNRAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Feb2/83 Collins, Cosper, Clancy, Gasch, McDonald & Manning. Against adoption none. And now the council porceeds to an election for the purpose of fillinf the vacancy caused by the removal of Policeman T J Small. Whereupon A H Manning seeing a majority of all the votes for the Councilmen present is duly declared elected as policeman to fill said vacancy for the term provided by law. Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until Monday February 5, 1883 at 7&1/2 o'clock PM Attest: E S Osborne clerk Approved John Collins acting mayor Be it remembered that on this the 5th day of February 1883 the CommonCOuncil of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment. 217 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Mar 2/83 Hendrickson & Regan per M B M[thousand board feet] $15.90 D S Hill $16.50 And now it appearing to the Council that the bid of Hendrickson & Regan is thelowest and best bid; and that they are the lowest responsible bidders. Itis ordered that the contract be awarded to them upon their giving a bond with good and sufficient surities in teh sum of $500.00/ And not the Council porceeds to open & consider the bids for the sidewalk to be constructed on Battery Street under Ordinance No 362, which bids are as follows to wit: S F Hoole per M B M[thousand board feet] $18.00 S G Simpson per M B M[thousand board feet] $16.90 D S Hill per M B M[thousand board feet] $17.50 And now it appearing to the Council that the bid of S G Simpson is the lowest and best bid; and that he is the lowest responsible bidder. Adopted & City Marshall is hereby instructed to remove such rubbish Apr 6/83 From Streets and Street Improvements recommending the construction of a sidewalk on the South side of Mill Street from South 2d to South 4th Street. Ordered filed From Finance recommending the curtailing of the expenses of Engineering on Improvements. Adopted From Public Buildings & Property and Grounds submitting plans for an Engine House on Columbia Street. Laid over until next meeting.
