Bill vs. Amos H. Powers. (2017)

Voted, – that a bill of the Corporation against Mr. Amos. H. Powers for work done upon his Lot dated , and amounting to $68.97 be referred to the Treasurer to make such settlement of the same as he may think proper in confirmation with the Superintendent, and with Mr. Winsor the former Superintendent, with whom the contract for the work was made by Mr. John Livemore _

Petition of Messrs Douglass & Dennis (2224) & (2225)

A petition was received from the Messrs Robert Douglass and William W. Dennis in reference to an alleged injury to their Lots, (Nos 2224 & 2225,) caused last year by grading adjoining Lots, and requesting that their Lots may be graded so as to conform to adjoining Lots, &c. Whereupon it was

Voted, – that the above petition be referred to the Committee on Grounds.

Bond given by the late Joseph Carew

The Secretary called the attention of the Board to the Bond given by Mr. Joseph Carew to the Corporation, under date of , by virtue of which he was allowed to do work upon Lots at request of proprietors without first obtaining the customary permits from the Corporation, – with a view of ascertaining what action if any might be expedient on the part of the Trustees, in view of the recent decease of Mr. Carew. After discussion it was

Secretary to notify his business successors.

Voted, – that the Secretary be instructed to inform the parties, if any, who may be carrying on business as the Successors of the late Mr. Carew, that the privilege accorded to Mr. Carew upon his bond, with surety, of doing work in the Cemetery without obtaining permits was personal to himself and would not be construed as applicable to his Successors.

Successors of Joseph Carew.

The Secretary reported that in obedience to the vote adopted at the last meeting he had duly notified the successor in business of Mr. Joseph Carew in accordance with the terms thereof, and had received an assurance that upon the settlement of Mr. Carew's affairs, the matter would receive due attention.

No other business being presented, the meeting

The regular monthly Meeting of the Trustees was held on Wednesday, , at half past Three o'clock P.M.

Present, the President & Messrs Austin J. T. Bradlee, N. J. Bradlee, Brewer, Norcross, Rand and Turner.

The record of the last Meeting was read and approved.

Com. on birds Their Report on Petition of W. F. Shaw

A Report was received from Dr. Brewer in behalf of the Committee, (Messrs Brewer and Rand,) appointed , "to consider the expediency of the protection, encouragement and introduction of birds within the Cemetery", (IV = 305), to whom was referred the communiction of Mr. W. F. Shaw relative to the introduction of cherry trees and other trees likely to attract birds to the Cemetery precincts. The Report was adverse to the introduction of the cherry tree for reasons stated; favored the introduction of other trees and shrubs as more attractive to birds, and less objectionable as well as more ornamental, and closed with a
