very much. He also writes to Jerry and he tels me Jerry is doing fine. I do like Jerry alot and meant like that makes me happy.

About your books, I havent been able to find any out in our library. Mayby its out or something. I had the guard check today for me and its not there. I would really appreciat reading your books that you have written, plus that book of yourself "The Lady at Box 99". If it could be possible I would really like to see them. I should confess to you that I do know a little about you, from being with Jerry for so long. He used to talk to me about you often. And I listened and never thought that I would be here writing to you. I am very concerned

about your recovery frm your two operations, I pray that you will be well again soon, and I firmly believe that you will because a woman with your strength and character can pull through the toughest.

Ill be very happy to know that you will let Jerry know we are corresponding. He will like that very much. Well Dr. Van Waters I guess I better close for now, and I think your eyes are probly tired as mine are (its pretty late), I just get carried away sometimes and write and write and write.

I want to thank you again from my heart for your most gracious response to my letter, thank you and I remain

Jon Furtado

I do relize that it is very remote, but I pray god hope that such a mirical will happen someday. I constantly think of him andhow he is. When we both get back together again Ill be most happy. Miriam I am very gratful and happy that you are doing all you can for both of us. When you spoke of Cardinal Cushing in your letter I was very surprised. I know howe he take such an interest in convicts And I know that together you both will help us in every way possible that which is capible of doing so. Father Toby has seen me last week and he told me that Jerry has written to him, and he is doing well. He has gained 25 lbs and is reading educational books; as I also am doing. He really has lost the bitterness in him, And he wants to come back hear so much, if I could Id go down there and just take him out of that

miserable place. But I cant live in a fantasy world I know things have to take there corse, and God will do that right thing and make him have what he wants, if he keeps going on like he is doing. As for as myself goes, well Im doing well I still read and keep my mind and body alert. There are some days that just get you down and things lay on top of you pressing you down, but I pull myself out of these depressed moods, by writing or reading, there isn't much to talk about here with other inmates because every body is a tough guy or just a comic. I really shouldn't have put it that way. I'll just say everybody acts accordingly to the environment, which is a sorrowful place to bigin with. I should not say anything about other inmates for they also have their problems too. I gust its just the environment and atmosphere that surrounds it hear in segrogation. Im sorry

situations as I will [??] if I could work with them on my relase. No, I have not read your book "Lady at Box 99," but Im looking foward to reading it, I asked Father Foley if he could find it for me and he said he would try and look for it. He should be seeing me in a couple of weeks so Ill know by then. He really is a nice man, he keeps in contact with Jerry often and lets me know how he is doing. And he lets Jerry know how Im doing also so that makes me happy as I know it makes Jerry happy also. Oh, did you know that Im an......uncle!! (crazy huh) Well, my Brother's wife had a baby I don't know what it is yet but I hope he lets me now. He is 21 years old and came back from Vietnam with a purple Heart among other meddles. He got blown up by stepping on a land mine. But he is all right. He is married and is

doing real good. He walks with a cane but he is strong and soon will be back to normal. He has had over 12 operations on his legs. And he still has metal in him in place. But he is all in one piece and thats what counts. Im proud of him because he has made good so far in life. And his wife is a very nice and beautiful woman, He met her at the hospital when he came home and they just made it right off. Ive met her a couple of times and we get along great. She is very open minded about things and very understandable. My Brothers name is Paul and his wifes name is Julie I have one sister and another brother but they are from my step father but I love them also. I haven't seen them for years but I remember them. We expect to be going to court around September or Octobor of the year And Max and Mell are pretty sure we will win.

Have you heard from Jerry yet? I hear he is doing well at Concord D. S. U; we are going to put in a suit or something on Concord because he is down there and was sentenced to Walpole. Plus a few other things that have been going on down there. So we are hitting from all sides. He is in good health and good spirits, as far as he can be allowed to be. They are pretty hard on him, the way they do things to him. If you want to write to him his address is - NAME BOX 00 #41867 WEST CONCORD, MASS 01781 OK He doesn't get any mail except from the attorneys and he doesn't get visits. He would
