10 [174] DIARY OF FRANCIS TAYLOR, 1791, 1791, June, 3, Mrs.Burnley sent home 1 pair Overalls, Capt Burnley invited us to fine there. my father & I went over- Uncle & Aunt Taylor- Rob't Taylor & wife, Mrs.Lee, Mrs.Daingerfield & Mrs Willis there-A little rain. 4, Rained in morning a little but soon clear. My father & I went to Court house Mrs Miller has been dancing two days. We returned hom about 3 o'clock- G.C.Taylor got home from Caroline. 5, [SUNDAY] Cool dry weather- C.Taylor dined here. 6, Continues dry- My father walked to J.Taylor's & ret'd before breakfast- J.Taylor intends part of the way to Spots'a Court to day. J.Taylor jr walked over & told us his father would not set off till tomorrow- We went over to dinner. C.Taylor, his family, Betsy & Sukey Conway- J.Pendleton & T.Barbour's familys were there. 7, J.Taylor went to Fredericksburg. We went to Capt Dade's funeral at Rosehill Mr Stevenson preached to a midling large Congregation. Maj'r Madison, Maj'r Lee & Capt Burnley called here and dined. [Capt Francis Dade died May 28-PFT] 8, Corn was planted in the Tobacco ground on this sie of the Spring beyond Wheat patch- J.Taylor jr dined here- After dinner G.C.T. & I went with him to Dade's Mill- they Washed- I angled but the fish bit poorly- J.Bell came here at night. Paid Mrs Burnley for making 2 pr Overalls 4/- 9, J.Bell & G.C.T. went to school house- the Boys turned out the Master & from there they went to Dade's Mill- Uncle Taylor came here and dined. 10, My father went to Mr.W.Taylor's & bought 14 lb Coffee- J.Taylor called here on his return from Fred'g & left some Tea & pins for G.Taylor & 8 small Lemons for me- A promising appearance fo rain, tho' very little fell. 11, I went to C.Taylor's who had a Bar'l Sugar brought home- Got 30 lb for my father and 25 lb for self. I went to J.Taylor's & went with his family, J.Pendleton's & T.Barbours to Uncle Taylor's. Rob't Taylor's family & C.Taylor dined there. After dinner at Uncle Taylor's most of us went to Court house- I walked back in 30 minutes. Note- the 15th July G.Taylor paid C.Taylor 18/- for his part of sugar. 12, [SUNDAY] J.Taylor sent and I let him have a gallon Wine at 6/- We went to his house to dinner. Reu Taylor, Rob Moore, Miss Throckmorton, Wm Daniel & wife, J.P & family & T.B's family dined there. Very clear dry weather. 13, J.Taylor, Tho' Barbour & C.Taylor's family, Maj'r Madison, came here from C.Taylor's and dined here- G.C.T. at Maj'r Moore's- 14, Very warm- thunder at a distance, no rain here- Planted Irish Potatoes in the missing hills of Sweet potatoe patch. Bees swarmed. 15, Sent B.Taylor's mare to Maj'r Moore's but she would not take the Horse. We went to C.Taylor's, Maj'r Moore & part family, Reu Taylor & wife, Mr Snodgrass there- John Moore & Mr Snograss came home with us. 16, J.Taylor & son, J.Pendleton, Maj'r Moore, Reu Taylor & John Moore dined here- Mr.Snodgrass & the boys went to School-Benj'a Taylor's mare put to Maj'r Moore's horses- Maj'r Moore paid me £13.4.0 Cash, which with the putting mine & B.Taylor's to his horse at 18/- each, balanced his account with me of £15.- 17, J.Pendleton & went from J.Taylor's to Culpeper. My father rode to Rob Taylor's & ret'd before noon- & Cloud to the North, thunder, only a few drops rain here- 18, Some clouds but no rain here to do good. 19, [SUNDAY] Verywwarm and dry, except a few drops of rain- Appeared as if good rain below. G.C.T. went to Mr.B.Porter's & ret'd in evening- 20, Began to cut Wheat. Uncle Taylor & J.Taylor dined here- G.Taylor brought me a letter from Rich'd Taylor from Mr Shepherd. Took a hive of bees, the honey had got loose & fell. 21, My father rode to Court house again to day & brought 2 Ream Wrapping paper sent me by Richard Taylor from Norfolk.
