DIARY OF FRANCIS TAYLOR, 1791,

January,
1, I rode to Court house-Mr.Bell's Estate's Slaves were hired out- The weather not so cold as yesterday- A good meny people there.
2,.J.Taylor & J.Pendleton [his son-in-law-WKA] came here on their way to Reu Taylor I went with them. J.Taylor jr & J.B.Pendleton dined there. In the evening Mr. *Wm.Taylor & wife walked to Reu.Taylor's- we returned. G.C.Taylor went to F.Taliaferro's- My father at home. [*Wm.Taylor, formerly merchant of Fredericksburg, bought Hubbard Taylor's farm Dec.7, 1789, when the latter moved to Ky] [SUNDAY]
3, My father, G.C.T. & F.T. [self] went to Capt Burnley's- Aunt Taylor, Mr.T.Bell, Maj'r Moore, Maj'r Lee, J.Taylor & son, J.Pendleton, Bowie Pendleton, dined there. Mild weather. [Notes= Capt Garland Burnley m.Frances, dau. Erasmus Taylor.-Maj'r Moore, probably a brother-in-law of Erasmus Taylor.-Thomas Bell m.Elizabeth, daughter of Zachary Taylor. -Maj'r Lee. a merchant, probably the brother of Mrs Zachary Taylor. -WKA]
4, J.Taylor had a company of young people. No married people but his brothers &c invited. The Company were very merry & fine weather. We were all there- Mess.Joseph Morton, Thos Newman & H[ay] Taliaferro jr came with us at night. Moses Perry says 127 Hnds of Corn are measured of the crop, being nearly what the last year crop was.
5, We all went to J.Taylor's again, most of the Company we had yesterday were there- Capt Burnley was there to day- I staid supper- fine soft weather, cloudy & smoky-
6, C.Taylor breakfasted here, said J.Taylor, J.Pendleton, T.Barbour & families would be at his house, we went over & dined with them. Bowie Pendleton, Miss Johanna Pendleton & Miss Betsy Conway also were there. J.Taylor jr, John & Bowie Pendleton & G.C.Taylor went to Mr.Reu Fry's, where they intend to Fox hunt tomorrow.
7, G.Taylor went to Mr.Wm.Taylor's (Ararat). Returned & went to Uncle Taylor's & dined.
8, Staid at home. My father in evening walked to C.Taylor's & came by J.Taylor's.
9, [SUNDAY] Rained before day, a little hail & snow and some ice, but not very cold.
10, Cloudy but mild weather. G.C.T. went to Capt. Conway's- I went with my father to Mr.T.Bell's. J.Taylor & son, J.Pendleton & family, T,Barbour &do., Harry Pendleton & sister Johanna & J.Barbour D.S., dined there- Mr.Bell & wife were at Col.Burnley's & came home after dinner. Mrs Macon [formerly Sarah Madison] & Miss F[rances]. Madison passed by on way to Maj'r Moore's, intending to Hanover-
11, J.Taylor & son, John Pendleton, Harry Pendleton, T.Barbour, Reu Taylor & J.Barbour D[eptury].S[heriff]. dined here- G.C.Taylor went in evening to Col T.Barbour's-intending to-morrow to Matthew Davis's to look at his land &c.
12, J.Pendleton & family, T.Barbour's wife &c went to Reu Taylor's & staid.
13, Killed 9 hogs- 7 of them Salted here & weighed 873 Nt. 2 of them, 240 Nt. sent to the Overseer- (Macon Biggers-hired Jany 7,) who my father agreed to take the 10th inst & give him 1/10 Tob'o. 1/12 Corn, Wheat, Rye, Brandy, Flax, Cotton &c. He moved here this day. My father was sent for to Dine with Capt Burnley but did not go. C.Taylor was here and got my father's gun. I went to Capt.Burnleys, J.Taylor & son & Nancy, J.Pendleton & family, T.Barbour's family, Harry Pendleton & sister, Miss Throckmorton, Polly Barbour & Fanny Moore dined there also C.Taylor, Reu Taylor and his wife- warm evening- Felt an earthquake about 2 or 3 o'clock this morning.
14, Cut & Salted the hogs killed yesterday. 2 were killed to-day for the Overseer, supposed will weigh 260 Nt. G.C.Taylor came to J.Taylor's last night, home to-day & went to Maj'r Moore's.
15, Cloudy, smoky & a little rain- My father & I went to J.Taylor's, J.Pendleton & Thos Barbour & their families, H.Pendletonton & sister Johanna, dined there. Jenny Taylor came in evening-
