JULY SUNDAY 17th 1887.

Extremely hot day. After
noon about 4-30 we had a
severe thunder storm accompanied
& preceeded by a violent
wind storm: it came from the
N.W + N- the barn & wagon shed
of Mr: Covington Zepp were struck
by lightning & burned. It rained
very hard In the evening
"Nelly" & Miss Cooney came &
spent an hour. Willie escorting
them home about 10 p.m
I mailed a letter to F Tyson
Thermometer stood at 97°
on our front porch for hours
and was 91° in the hall in the dark
and 90° in our room
up stairs. It has certainly been
the hottest day we have had
for years past.

Extremely hot the
"hottest" morning this summer
80° at 5.o'clk a.m. and
continued hot until after
noon. I drove down to
Wm S Bond's & H Owen's
early in the morning calling
at Ashton on way home.
Willie with me. Afternoon
towards evening a thunder
gust passed very close to
us one soon after dinner
going south and later &
the last one North of us
which may give us some
yet.
