22 [210] DIARY OF FRANCIS TAYLOR, 1792, 1792, October, 4, My father continues very unwell, much pain about the region of the bladder with an involuntary discharge of urine when lying down & difficulty of passing it when he tries to do it- C.Taylor went home and returned in the evening. Bro'r James was here in the morning and evening. James Taylor jr (Caroline) , Maj'r Lee and Alex'r Shepherd came here to Breakfast and then proceeded to Fredericksburg. I continue unwell. 5, Turned the Ram Lamb which we got from C.Conway with the Ewes- My father not so easy to day- Bro'r James was here in morning- C.Taylor came by & went to Court house, there was a Called Court on Mrs James's Randal & Col Willis's Bob- The Com'rs met with Barbour & Webb about their Accounts, but did very little in the matter. G.C.Taylor came home from Rob't Taylor's, not having heard my father was unwell till to day. 6, James Taylor and C.Taylor dined here- Mr.Shepherd came here After dinner & staid till sunset, it being the first time he ever was here. Sent for some papers at J.Taylor's who came & brought them to him- My father rather more unwell to day than since first attacked- took some pills &c sent by C.Taylor- 7, [SUNDAY] The Pills having purged my father, he appears easy to what he has been J.Taylor & son, C.Taylor, Reuben Taylor & Stephen Smith (Joe's son) dined here. Smith came to see J.Taylor jr, said he had just concluded going to Kentuck & they concluded to go together- Uncle Taylor came here to see my father but went home before dinner, John & Robert Taylor came in the evening and staid about two hours. William Madison called here after Sunset on his way to the Assembly and proceeded to Reu Taylor's. My father got him to take an Int.Warrant and a note on one Wm.Hill with him to Richmond. I got Wm Madison to take my Int Warrants for £54.6.5. and desired Him if could not get money for them at the Treasury, to sell them if he could get 16/8 in 20/- for them, but not for less, except enough to pay Register's fees of three plats of Land- Reu Taylor's and mine. I also gave him a plat for 1,000 acres Land N.W. of Ohio, to lodge at Land Office. Also a Certificate of Wm.Taylor's to get a mistake adjusted, that I suppose had been made. Also a letter for Mr.Dunscomb to send me an Acco't Left with him Last May, by my brother James Taylor, If he has it, or to inform what he has done about it. Mr.W.Madison went from hence to Reuben Taylor's. 8, Foggy and some clouds, without rain and warm- C.Taylor & Capt Conway came here to Breakfast, we rode to Court house-G.Conway proceed to his plantation. I staid till evening, C.Taylor called by with me. Maj'r Lee & H.Lee were fixing to start to Kentucky, and I believe are ready to set off to morrow. John Taylor & family set off from his father's this evening intending tonight to Maj'r Moore's and to proceed on their road to Georgia tomorrow. My father still continues ill and I have been much so for several days. I saw Col J.Madison jr at Court house and informed him some of Eliza' Chew's friends were giving her some money to purchase some necessaries, he gave me 28/- (two half guineas) for that purpose 9, G.C.Taylor sent Syl to Doct'r Walker's with Books &c borrowed of F.Walker, also some money- Syl ret'd at night. C.Taylor was here to see my father, who continues ill. I walked with him in the evening to J.Taylor's. Turned our young Ram with the Sheep. Maj'r Lee & family, J.Taylor jr, H.Lee &c set off to day- [for Kentucky] 10, G.C.Taylor went with a sledge to Smith's & brought home a trunk he bad bought. J.Taylor was here in the morning, but soon returned. Uncle Taylor & Mr.Balmain came here to dinner. Ch's Taylor also dined here. Reu Taylor was here after dinner & went away with C.Taylor. Maj'r Moore & Col J.Madison jr was here in evening and went back to Maj'r Moore's. 11, My father appears something better to day- C.Taylor and J.Taylor were here but went away before dinner. Rob't Taylor was here in the evening. I was walked out and did not see him. 12, Began to rain about an hour before day & continued heavy till 1 or 2 o'clock afternoon- more water appears in bottoms than I have seen for two or three years- J.Taylor and C.Taylor was here in the evening to see my father, who continues very unwell.
