also macomet lofed wel an eremyte a good man þat
dwellid in wyldirnes a myle fro mou[n]t Synay in þe
vale as men goth fro araby to calde & Inde a day io[ur]ne
fro þe see þ[er] marchau[n]dis of venys come þ[a]t macomet went
so ofte into þ[a]t eremytage þ[a]t al his men were wroþ for
he herde gladly þis eremyte p[er]che and made his men
wake al þe nyȝt & his men thoȝt þey wolde þis eremyte
were ded so hit befel vpon a nyȝt þ[a]t macomet was
dronke of good wyn & he fel a slepe & his men tok
his swerd out of his schepe whylys he slep & þ[er]wiþ þay
slow þe eremyte & seþþen þay putte hit vp aȝen al
blody and at morne whan he awok & fond þe eremyte
ded he was ful wroþ & wolde haue do his men to deth
but þay al w[i]t[h] on acord sayde he hym self had slayn hy[m]
whan he was dronkyn & schewid hym his swerd al
blody & þan he trowyd þay sayde soþ & þan he cursid
þe wyn & al þo þ[a]t drynkiþ hyt & þ[er]fore sarzenys þ[a]t
beþ deuowte drinkiþ no wyn but som drynkiþ hit
p[re]uyly & ȝif þay drinke wyn openly þay schalbe rep[ro]uyd
