Parents: Mr. and Mrs. J. Morrison of Christchurch.

Born at Christchurch on the 26th July 1923, Kenneth Morrison received his secondary education at the Boy's High School there and passed the matriculation examination, subsequently proceeding to Canterbury University College to study commercial subjects. The sports in which he took part were football, cricket, boxing and swimming. His civilian occupation was that of a clerk in the State Advances Corporation, Christchurch. In May 1941 he applied for war service in the R.N.Z.A.F.

Flight Sergeant Morrison was enlisted for aircrew training on the 21st December 1941 at the Initial Training Wing, Levin and was posted on the 9th February 1942 to No. 1 Elementary Flying Training School, Taieri to commence his flying training. On the 11th April he embarked for Canada to continue his training under the Empire Air Training Scheme.

Shortly after his arrival in Canada, Flight Sergeant Morrison was posted on the 10th May to No. 12 Service Flying Training School, Brandon, Manitoba and while here on the 27th August he was awarded his flying badge and promoted to sergeant. Later, when in England on the 1st June 1943 he was further promoted to flight sergeant. Meanwhile, on the 8th September 1942 he had proceeded to No. 1 "Y" Depot, Halifax, Nova Scotia, to await embarkation for the United Kingdom. Having arrived in England on the 5th November 1942, Flight Sergeant Morrison was held at No. 3 Personnel Reception Centre, Bournemouth until posted on the 30th December to No. 11 (Pilots) Advanced Flying Unit, Shawbury, Shropshire. This training completed, he was posted on the 28th February 1943 to No. 1521 Beam Approach Training Flight, Stradishall, Suffolk, for an instrument flying course at the conclusion of which on the 9th March he proceeded to No. 15 Operational Training Unit, Harwell, Berkshire, to crew-up and complete his training on Wellington bomber aircraft.
