412857 Aircraftman Harold James MORRISON.
Parents: Mr. and Mrs. W.T.J. Morrison of ROTORUA.

Harold Morrison was born at Nelson on the 3rd April 1921. He received his secondary education at the Petone Technical College taking the engineering course. Until the time of entering the Territorial Army for war service at Dannevirke early in 1941, he was employed as a motor mechanic by Acme Motors Limited, at Lower Hutt. He met with a motor accident at Dannevirke and was invalided from the Army but applied for enlistment in the Royal New Zealand Air Force in March 1941.

Aircraftsman Morrison was enlisted at Harewood on the 9th May 1941 and served there and at Wigram until posting to Rongotai on the 1st August for training as a Flight Mechanic. After completing this course, he returned to Harewood for duty on the 10th December, and carried out flight mechanic duties there, later at Whenuapai and Gisborne, until his return to Rongotai on the 15th October 1942 for a Fitter Course. He completed the course during January 1943 and was posted to Ashburton, serving there and at Hamilton, and Gisborne until posting to the Forward Area in the Pacific on the 5th June 1944. He was located at Espiritu Santos for his tour of overseas service and returned to New Zealand on the 28th May 1945. After a period of leave he was posted to Harewood, and released from the service for a return to his civilian occupation on the 29th August 1945.

Aircraftsman Morrison was accidently drowned when a motor car in which he was a passenger plunged into a lagoon near Tokomaru Bay. He was buried in the Rotorua Cemetery.
