Syn. C. limosa var. irrigua, Wahl. C. paupercula
Michx. C. lenticularis Dew (not of Michx)

Sterile spike solitary; fertile spikes 2 to 4,
ovoid or oblong, occasionally sterile at the apex;
lowest bract as wide as the leaves, longer than
the culm; perigynia roundish-ovate, much
shorter than the tapering pointed scale. Culms eighteen inches to two feet high; flowers in
May. Tamarac [tamarack] swamps.

Wisconsin, Southern Indiana, Ohio,
Michigan and about Lake Superior. Also
in the arctic regions, and East ward to the
N. England states.
