Sterile spikes 2 or 3, the uppermost stalked;
fertile spikes two, ovoid or oblong; perigynia ovoid,
densely wooly, obscurely nerved, scarcely beaked, two
toothed; bracts exceeding the culm and with the leaves
narrow and involute. Culm very slender
about 2 feet high; flowers in June. Cranberry marshes.
