2 Cyperus diandrus, Torrey.

Synonyms. C. castaneus, Bigelow. C. bicolor, Burton, (not of Vahl.)

Stamens two; spikes lance-oblong on 2 to 5
unequal rays; scales oblong, obtuse, chesnut-brown
on the margins; achenium flattened, dull, oblong-obovate,
minutely wrinkled across. -- Culms 4 to 10 inches
high, cespitose, often reclining. Flowers in
August.

About springs and other wet places: From
Milwaukee to the St Croix river in Wisconsin; also in
Illinois Ohio, and Michigan

The variety castaneus, Torrey, only is found
in the West.
