Wisconsin Legislature Assembly Chamber. Madison January 21 1873

Hon. I. A. Lapham

Dear Sir: Yours of yesterday suggesting an appropriation by the State to be applied to the propagation and introduction of the better kinds of fish has had our careful consideration. Mr. Rhoda and myself fully concur with you that an appropriation of $500 or a larger sum would be profitably expended for that purpose.

If it is not asking too much I wish you would prepare a bill and send it to me and at the proper time I will introduce it in the Assembly and in the mean time will canvass the matter in the lower house I have no doubt but the proposition when understood will be well received.

Yours truly F. D. Parks

Madison Jan 21st Dr. I. A. Lapham

[Left Page] Academy, a board to conduct its survey. In the first draft, he had the Pres of the State Univ. instead of the member of the Academy but changed it at the suggestion of Dr Hoyt who is now east. By an arrangement just effected, he has concluded to introduce it tomorrow morning in the Assembly through some friend & have it referred to the same committee in whose hands ours now is — & to try to harmonize its two in their hands. Aside from these two bills there is

[Right Page] one preparing for a shaft to "prove" the lower Magnesian in the Lead Region & a memorial has been introduced praying the U. S. Government to survey its lands in the state. So altogether there seems to be considerable interest on the subject. I hope we shall succeed in harmonizing all these interests & pass one bill in its integrity. Your name is a tower of strength. The Chicago Times of tomorrow or next day will contain a strong article in our favor.

I shall try to ^do^ everything for success that is consistent with perfect moral integrity. I will not go farther than that for any consideration. Trusting that we shall have a successful issue. I remain,
