January Sunday 22 1905

Umm idj Djimâl, 9:00 A.M. Temp. 42 ° Baro S. 27.10 " L 27.40
Cloudy.

No work, it being Sunday. B. L. & N. explored some tombs
in the desert, outside of the city, taking about a two hour
walk, from the N.W. to the S.E. - in afternoon. - also walked
among the ruins in the morning.

My servant Peter, took his horse and explored the country
to the S. & S.E. for 2 or 3 miles, and following to the E. the flight of
some ducks that were flushed from what was left of our
old pool of water, came in 1/2 hours to a good pool of clear
water, so that we are all very happy.

I gave a Beduin some Boric acid for his eyes, and after care-
fully and emphatically explaining to him that he should use
only the clearest of spring water, was asked "Shall I mix
coffee with it?"
