Calm, light fog, Hoar frost

About 30 Druse horsemen rode in to the ruins this after
noon, and quartered themselves on the Beduins. Their curiosity
at my theodolite was so great, that they crowded around so much
that I could not do my work and so stopped. They nosed into
the doors of the tents but were not invited to enter being treated
very coolly. Then they squatted in a circle on the ground at some
distance away and had an ernest confab about something.

Two Beduin woman were given medicine. One of them came
smoking a long stemed? stone bowled pipe. They were greatly pleased to
receive any attention from such a big man as myself and so had
a fine time, smiling & laughing. One of them said that her
brother's beard would grow for a week and then all drop
out & she wanted some medicine for him also. Among these
people it is a great shame to be beardless.

The entire Hauran range is covered with snow to 5
miles S. of Salkhard, and down to the 3500 ft. level.
