Lieutt Stewart. Coast Guard Station Hornsea.
Sir, 16th April 1858.
My Lords of the Privy Council
for Trade having had under consideration
the offences recently committed by John Smith
Leonard Barker and Robert Willisen, of having
taken from the sea shore near Atwick, certain
quantities of Tallow which were Droits of Admiralty
and sold the same to William Smith of Brandes-
Burton as below stated ----------viz ----------
Tallow.
Cwt. qrs. lbs £. s. d.
John Smith 1 " 2 " 14 Sold for ----- 3 " 14 " 0
Leonard Barker 4 . 3 " 2 ----"---- -------- 7 . 13 " 0
Robert Willisen 1 " ------" 26 ----"---- 1 " 19 . 0
And their Lordships - after the example
they have made of other men who had committed
similar offences - and which they hope will have
the salutary effect of deterring all persons who
reside on the Coast of Holderness from committing
the like offences - are disposed so far to deal mercifully
in their cases as to waive proceedings against them
