property, the understanding was that said Booker Street ran all the way through from
Preston Avenue to Carlton Avenue. We find the end of Booker Street which should terminate
at Carlton Avenue has been closed, due to the fact that one or two lots have been
wold which cross that end of Booker Street leaving a pass way of about four feet a
very poor outlet.

The alley on the rear of the property situated on the West side of Booker Street
is also closed at the said end which should open in Carlton Avenue. Thus the Scavenger
Wagons must stop at our front doors, and the refuse is brought through our front yards
when under normal conditions the alley on the rear should be used since the toilets are
situated on the Alley.

There is also a very bad fill near the N. W. end of Booker Street as it now
stands which is quite dangerous especially on dark nights since there is no light there.

We are therefore, petitioning your honored Gentlemen for assistance in renovat-
ing these unseeming conditions.

Trusting that this matter may recieve your careful consideration and that we shall
soon hear from you, We are,

Very respectfully,

TO THE MEMBERS OF THE
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA.

Gentlemen:

A petition signed by 11 property owners on Belmont Avenue was presented at a
meeting of the Council held on July 4h.

The petition requested the construction of pavement composed of a 4" concrete base
and 2"asphalt concrete top with a 6" high curb on each side; together with 5 foot con-
crete sidewalk on each side of the roadway.

This construction to be laid between Monticello Avenue and Rialto Street. It is
conditioned upon not distrubing the two big trees in the center of the Street and in
front of W. P. Walp's property, also that some sort of hard surface street be placed
along Church Street from Hinton Avenue to Monticello Avenue with a 6" high curb on each
side. The petition further states that the property owners signing same agree to pay
1/3 of the cost or not exceeding $1.50 per lineal foot of frontage for the pavement and
not exceeding $1.00 per lineal foot of frontage for sidewalk construction, according to the
petition the signers agree to execute their notes payable to the City and divided into
four equal installments. The first to become due upon completion of the work
and thence every six months thereafter. The notes to bear no interest.

The estimated cost of a pavement 18 feet wide with high curb is $4000.00, having
