Eclipses, 1919

In the year 1919 there will be three eclipses, two of the Sun and one of the Moon.

I. A total eclipse of the Sun, May 28th, 1919. Invisible in Canada.

II. A partial eclipse of the Moon, Nov. 7th, 1919. The beginning generally visible in Asia, except the eastern portion of Africa, the eastern part of N. America, and S. America, except the extreme western part; the end visible generally in W. Asia, Europe. Africa, S. American, and N. America, except the extreme western part. At Toronto the Moon enters the shadow or umbra 5h. 58m. p.m. Middle of eclipse 6h. 44m. p.m., leaves the umbra 7h. 30m. p.m. Magnitude of eclipse 0.184.

III. An annular eclipse of the Sun, Nov. 22nd, 1919, visible in Eastern and Central Canada as a partial eclipse. At Montreal the eclipse begins at 7h. 50m. a.m. Maximum eclipse 9h. 5m., and ends 10h. 21m. a.m. Magnitude of eclipse 0.37. At Toronto the eclipse begins 7h. 42m. and ends 10h. 15m. a.m. Magnitude of eclipse 0.46. At Quebec it begins at 7h. 59m., and ends 10h. 24m. a.m. Magnitude of eclipse 0.33. 75th Mer. time. At St. John, N.B., the eclipse begins 7h. 6m., ends 10h. 50m. a.m. 60th Mer. time Magnitude of eclipse 0.39. In Bermuda the eclipse begins 6h. 41m., ends 7h. 54m. a.m. 60th Mer. time. Magnitude of eclipse 0,51. The path of the annular eclipse starts not far from Austin in Texas, passing nearly central over the Gulf of Mexico and the length of Cuba, grazing the north coast of S. America, and then turniug N.N.E., crosses the Atlantic Ocean, striking the coast of Africa, passing over and ending a little east of Timbuktu in the Sahara desert.
