23rd marched from Albergaria & arrived at the Camp near Fuente Guimaldo on the banks of the Agueda, the Head Quarters of the Army  it appears that the enemy are in immense force & that we cannot hinder C. Rodrigo from being relieved; but that we shall not let them pass the Agueda if possible  we are throwing up works in all directions tho’ it is not expected that they will attempt to pass it 
25th It being confidently reported that the enemy were advancing, we left our wood on the Agueda & proceeded to occupy our part of the position which L.d Wellington had taken up  it was a commanding plain (on which 3 batteries had been previously erected) in front of the village of Fuente Guimaldo, with the rugged banks of the Agueda on the right & a high hill on our left  our pickets were driven in in front of the 3rd Division
