1797 11 o/m [=November] 24th very unwell done little except taking care of [?rea?] & whet frame saw got Wm. Loller to bleed me in morn 25th hewed gate post for lane before the door & set it in boy finished cleaning black oats C. Clayton &c. here in even A [=Sunday] 26th unwell still took phisick myself & then gave Alloes to Wm. Mansfield's mare. Betsy Webb & B. Bailey here to see wife staid to dine Wm. Webb & wife etc here in even[ing] 27 hewing & seting in posts for board fence at N.E. cor =ner of barn & put up board partition under bridge 28th Nailed boards on fir fence & sundry chores about barn 29th I having been afflicted with a Cough these some weeks hath at length received a violent stitch in my right side & shoulder which confines me to my bed for the mos[t] part altho. I have divers times been bled & phisicked the last bleeding was this morning in my right foot [??fted] midling well sweat much arose in morn took salt & kept closish house R. Lamborn, Jn.o Broomhall & a young man from Trenttown Named Nealer Child here to dine I feel much afflicted with pain in right side & shoulder 12 o/m 1st butchered 15 hogs Wm. Loller &c helping I rather better but not able to help much we cut up 5 in even for our own use 2nd M Hooper came again & helped dress 2 small pigs grease waggon &c till noon I doctoring dun colt for farcy then went to Jacob Dingres & home A 3rd I fee much better than I have done these some weeks, I rode [w̶e̶n̶t̶] to meeting & ^came home on foot creatur[e] got out of stable Sarah Carleton here to dine I mad[e] some preparation in even for Journey to city 4th arose before day made ready & started ^Wm Loller & son Jonathan with waggon early I staid till near sunrise then rode to Dr. Peirces warmed & rode on overtook waggon near S. Painters fed at Vernons. & Stone house Tavern I dined at Jos. Claytons we went to Gray's ferry staid till morn 5th after breaking ice across Creek we were oblidged to get to middle ferry & soon to town sold of & took in sundries & came to Vittles Tavern on the Strausburg road 9 miles from City

Mercer & wife here in even 9^th [xxxting] [book's] & in order in morn Dr Peiree here I paid him near 30 £ of ballance & took [illegible] note I then went to [illegible] Reed payment ^ of M. Taylor [illegible] acct then home 10^ th went to Dr Peirees. then to meeting & back there again to [dine] staid awhile & came home father here in even [illegible in margains] 11^ th cuting & hauling [illegible] from lower field &. children 12^ th cuting & hauling wood from clearing Dennis helping 13^ th hewing & ?cting gate poft & fencing & by [illegible] yard at barn father helping 14^ th [illegible] [illegible] in ase & [illegible] D.D. & boys to cutting & hauling wood I went to Mo Mt. at [bentre] call'd at S. Logues & [illegible] home late 15^ th fell [whiteoaf] for gate [illegible] & wet weather boys clean[illegible] seed I [helving] ase &. then to R.C. & R lam barns got stove [illegible] 16^ th cuting & hauling fire wood hewing & hauling [roth] till noon then hung [illegible] as yard gate set in ^ ban path & made up cowyard fence Mm Stewart helping 17 went to meeting & home S. Miller & T. Wiley here from Mt. Father & Mother B. down to see us staid till near even 18^ th set Dennis to cut tinder in clearing I went M. [Noopes] then home to hewing [ro???] went with Mr. Calvert & to [illegible] I came by M.M's for [a ^ a gi] & then to clearing geting wood home till even I [hut] splint bottom in big [roehmig] chair 19^ th grinding axes & till noon then hauling wood & till even 20^ th hewing [illegible] & set up three pannel of fence below [illegeble] yard & sent Indian Hannah to I.Mercer 21 let Son Jonathan to [cyphering] I went to Mt & home extreme cold weather John Alford here in seven 22^ nd butchered cow in morn then went to school met comin[illegible] they come with one to dine then to S. Hervey school I J. [Greave] stop'd at Mm Webbs to warm then to my house in even cold weather 23^ rd I & J.G. went by mill to S. Carletons & J. A' school I came home to dine then to Mt. [illegible] help's Ril. & to set up new sta?? then [illegible] & R.L. with me him & [illegible] staid til bed time
