Dear Sir

Yours of the 18th ulto was duly received Covering $250 in notes & Gov. [Turner?] dft for $613 58/100 we should have answered your letter before this but waited for your dft on us in favor of Mr Stanard to make its appearance which only came to hand on Saturday last, as regards the debts of Smith, Rose & [Hovin?], we have, we expect advanced to Mr Stanard nearly that amt the fact however shall be ascertained shortly and if we have not paid in the full amt it shall be done immediately ~

If it should not become necessary in a short time to say anything about Rose & [Chalris?] debt we would prefer your remaining silent until we ascertain posatively whether anything can be done with Milton Rose-

If we cannot by any means get a lein on Miltons property we apprehend a loss of the debt, for he has laterly given himself up entirely to the Bottle & without a great & speedy change he cannot live but a short time

has anything been done with Duncan Rose's property or has he satisfied D. H. & Cos debt~ The present situation of Milton makes it more necessary than ever that we should keep a close look out on Duncans property, we should be glad to hear from you on this subject & remain with much respect

Yrs Hinton & Brand

NB when our J Hinton last had the pleasure of seeing you at Granville Court House you were much displeased with Mr [Willion?] on account of his conduct about Mason & Cliftons debt, we are much pleased & think it our duty to clear Mr [Willion?], for our S.C.B. says that if there was any expenses attending the collection of that debt we were to refund it to him, & of course he could have no pecuniary or selfish motive in what he done
