tion the accident dear Tip has met with _ I thank God
it was no worse. but it is bad enough as it is. He bears it as
he did his blow up. not a complaint is uttered. Perfectly quiet.

It happened on Friday _ you know how cold it was that day _
He came into Butler + in a cheerful voice said _ Butler I wish
you would see what can be done to this finger of mine. His hand
was covered with blood _ the nail hanging by a mere thread.

Butler got his clippers + took it off _ he says all the evidence
of pain Tip showed was that cold as it was the perspiration
was on his forehead _ ever since the pain is intense _ especi
ally when in a warm room. He says last night he really
thought he would have had spasms _ but he would not
disturb Butler. It is distressing to see his calm endurince

We know when he is suffering most _ when he is seen
walking about the yard _ cold + wet as it had been
he cant go near the fire or stay in a warm room.
I very much fear he will take severe cold.

It is very hard for me to understand how Floyd really
is. For the last two weeks he has certainly appeared in
better health. I can't but think Dr Sulivans medicine
has done him good. Our dear Butler still coughs
very much _ but he says it gives him no pain _
Virginia _ still has a cold _ but is quite bright _ Do
