Mr. David Driskell:

I know that you are extremely busy, but
if you get this note, somehow let me know.
I wrote to you several days a go but I didn't
expect an immediate answer to that. Perhaps
Mrs. Driskell could inform me that my mail
has been recieved.

Last month Mr. Rexford Stead wrote for a 4 x 5
transparency of [Slave Lynching (underlined) ] - which I sent.
Yesterday I recieved another letter from his office
informing me that the response to the exhibition, [Black (underlined) ]
[American Artists: 1750-1950 (underlined) ] had been so enthusiastic
that some of the promised loans must be eliminated
because of [space (underlined) ] limitations - so he asked me not
to send the painting, [Pallbearers (underlined).

My wife asked me to inform you of this action.
If you are aware of what is being done,
then I must abide by your decision. Mr. Stead's
letter was signed by Rexfor Stead, Deputy Director -
but initialed RAS/FKF : m.h.

Regards to the family - and best wishes on
all of your plans for the show and beyond.

Sincerely,
Claude Clark
