[Redacted]

Dear Dr. Driskell:

Your kind letter reminded me again that the school year has come to its
end and that you have contributed greatly to making it a very special one.
I'm sure that I express the appreciation of the entire Talladega College
family when I say this. In spite of the obstacles that prevented your arrival
for the first semester, you have provided us with a unique experience in the
field of art, as the UNCF Distinguished Scholar at Large.

Our single course approach, Introduction to the Humanities, may not
always give students the background in specific areas that we would like for
them to have. What your activities provided us with enlarged student and
faculty insight into art so that we will better understand what we are exposed
to and at the same time motivated us to the exploration of art forms accessible
to us that we have been, heretofore, reluctant to approach.

All of this has taken place as you continued to be productive in your
medium. The exhibit of original works, that you offered during the Fine Arts
Festival, left us wondering when you found the time to create while meeting a
myriad of other professional obligations. Your willingness to participate in
classroom settings, whenever opportunities presented themselves, is much
appreciated by the Office of Academic Affairs.

You will be missed by all of the communities with which you had contact.
The semester was made all the richer because you were upon a return visit to
Talladega and indeed this enhanced the feeling of your being one of us. We
hope that this will not be your last visit, nor that the next will be so far
into the future.

We share your appreciation for all that Dr. Bacon and Dr. Braithwaite
have done in coordinating the work of the Distinguished Scholar in so spendid
a manner. Together, you have set high standard for the next scholar to match.

Cordially,
