Memebers of the Board of Governors:

In seeking candidates for the post of Academic
Director, the Search Committee is asking each
Governor and selected past faculty members to
make a recommendation of the one person they
feel can most appropriately permanently fill
this job with the reasons for your choice.

Remember, it is full time in the summer and
an average of 2-3 days in the winter as now
structured.

Among the possibilities, it was suggested that
we consider persons now working as artists,
writers, critics, gallery staff and arts admin-
istrators.

If they are currently living in the New York
area, it would probably be a plus given the
difficulty of finding new housing here.

The Committee asks that you make this suggestion
confidentially to us and not approach the person
you are suggesting at this early date.

Your reply to this request for your prime selec-
tion will be appreciated by February, so that
the names submitted can be considered by the
Committee individuals before our meeting next
month.

Sincerely,

J.F. [signature]
