Dr. David C. Driskell, Chairman Department of Art Fisk University Nashville, Tennessee
Dear Dr. Driskell: This letter is being addressed to you, even though I do not know if you have yet returned to Fisk from your year in Europe. Francois and I are eager to hear about that year as we are sure you must have had many interesting experiences. You have probably seen the article on Clementine Hunter in the Aug. issue of Family Circle. As a result of this recent publicity, we have been

asked to provide Hunter paintings for two major exhibits, one at a very important gallery in New York City. We feel that it is a wonderful opportunity to publicize her works. Therefore, I will need the paintings which are from my collection and which are on loan to Fisk. I am sorry to have to send for these, but perhaps they can go back at another time. Please send these as soon as you can since we must repack them and get them to those exhibits. Yours sincerely, Ora G. Williams (?)

A7 Tyneham road London S. W. 11. Love & greetings to Thelma & all the family.
20.11.73 My dear David, Greetings from the hole in Battersea. Its cold as you no doubt remember from your visit and even colder due to lack of money. I am intoxicated by all the expenditure I have incurred by my visit to America. However I am begining to thaw out a little and am sorting out all the things one has to when one has been away for sometime. The plight of the artist never changes; although

he may go to many different lands, reality still remains the same. And this is why one must go on painting to forge a different reality. I must thank you most graciously for all your kindness and tolerance that you showed towards me through the difficult days that you must have endured whilst I was at Fisk. I will always remember the beautiful evenings I spent having dinner of luscious corn-bread which Thelma prepared, and your family around the table. These memories I shall cherish. Well David I hope the President will honor his commitment and buy the painting one day soon. (One must dream) New York shows possibilities. God bless & keep your household safe & warm from your friend Waltfen (?) Walter? Waufer (?) PS I forgot the print of yours that you gave me. Please post it to me.
